KT 63.18 — Tales of the Kernel Popper™: pitching trio on track or better

Post by JRamirez » Thu May 15, 2025 8:34 am

Some people have nightmares (MX: pesadillas) about their organization's Development Center, or Complex. DMO personnel and players are mostly seeing positive results in the Kernels D-Lab. Yes, pesadilla is "Mexican" for nightmare, just like quesadilla (pronounced properly, i.e., not like in Napoleon Dynamite) is Mexican for quesadilla, and a quesadilla pesadilla is a nightmare of a quesadilla, the kind served after 3 am at your local Taco Fast Food Lugar (place). Quesadilla <= Quesada (~cheesecake) <= Queso (cheese). Pesadilla <= pesada (a little heavy on the tummy). Armadillo <= Armada (armored). El armadillo comió las tres quesadillas y pues tuvo una gran pesadilla (The armadillo ate the three quesadillas and then had a huge nightmare). Congratulations, advance to the next level.

Oh yes. 27-year-old Pancho Méndez, who, like JR, is a Memphian, and who loves quesadillas, is, according to grease-stained reports, excelling at—what was it?—Secondary Pitch Improvement, meaning he continues this offseason to cut his cutter. Méndez is on the bubble for making the Des Moines staff in 2063. Happy New Year, by the way.

Mientras tanto (meanwhile), two other lanzadores (pitchers), the impresionable Manhattanite southpaw reliever Javier Arteaga (POT 55) [Double-A Providence] is on track to successfully improve his pitch movement. Arteaga also excels at competitive yo-yoing in the City, and he's also said to be increasing his movement there. Then there's 25-y.o. Salah Lutfi (POT 55) who is finding new heights in controlling his control.
