2053.5: A Disappointing End

Complete and utter joy in Des Moines at the idea of playing playoff baseball for the first time in 45 years quickly turned to despair and frustration as the team was swept out of the playoffs by the underdog Louisville Sluggers. The Kernels finished comfortably ahead of the Sluggers in the regular season, but 3 consecutive one run losses (including 2 at home where the Kernels dominated this season), will leave a bitter taste in the mouth of everyone associated with the organization.

When asked if the disappointing end would prompt any moves, GM Randy Weigand did not seem to indicate so, saying "we have most of our guys coming back next year except for Jay (Hodge), and overall I am pretty happy with the composition of this roster. We have some talent coming up through the minors and two guys in Marshall (Taylor) and Sonny (Bigalow) who will have a full spring training to get acclimated to the big league roster." Despite his words, Weigand has been known to be aggressive when the time is right, so keep an eye out for any potential moves in an effort to not only make the playoffs again, but win some games this time.

I like reading this, because for a brief moment I can forget what happens after this and feel good about myself. Also, I learned in this league it is indeed true that you just have get in. Anything can happen.
