2053,1: The Dynamic Duo

When the 2052 season came to a close for the Des Moines Kernels in extra innings of game 163, GM Randy Weigand vowed that he would do everything in his power to ensure his organization was not in that position again. In the off-season he made two of the biggest moves in recent BBA history, acquiring 2nd generation legend Hector Cano Jr. and future Hall of Famer Aaron Haney in separate deals to beef up the outfield. To say those moves have worked out has been an understatement as Haney and Cano Jr. have been without question the two best players in the Frick League through the first half of the season.

It is tough to pick between them, with Haney being more consistent across the board offensively, but Cano playing a more premium defensive position and being no slouch with the bat himself. Weigand has long been regarded as having an eye for offensive minded players, and while even Stevie Wonder could spot the talent these two guys had, there was some question about what he gave up to acquire them. Sitting comfortably in a wild card spot and contending for their first division title in generations, those questions should likely be answered at this point.
