As we approach the All-Star Break, the Des Moines Kernels have a middling record of 37-44, good for 6th place in the Heartland Division. Despite the disappointing record, there are some signs of hope, as the team has had a winning record so far in June (14-12), and there have been some bright spots on the offensive side of the ball. The offense is led by a three-headed monster of holdovers Hasheem Makin and Malik bin Mazin, to go along with new signing Joe Bradshaw. The recent return of the mega-talented Felix Perreno should give a noticeable boost to that side of the ball as well.
Another reason for hope in Des Moines is that the pitching staff has been vastly underperforming and there is belief that there is too much talent to struggle to this degree for much longer. Future hall-of-famer Alaric Wullenweber is having easily the worst season of his career, which frankly should not be happening at age 32. Additionally highly touted youngster Slobodan Omeragic has been a massive disappointment since signing a big money deal to come over from the GBC prior to the 2051 season, and while the team has no good answer for his struggles they are sticking with him in the hopes that raw talent will carry the day.

Big time under performers in Iowa. I expect over .500 finish at season’s end.
