2052-1: Guess Who's Back, Back Again

Shockwaves were sent around the Brewster Baseball Association following last season when Des Moines GM Aaron Weiner announced his resignation from the GM job in Des Moines. For a long-suffering franchise who had become synonymous with losing throughout its history, there was immediate fear of slipping back into irrelevance with the departure of a highly credentialed GM, especially given recent league trends of hiring inexperienced GMs. Thus you can imagine the collective surprise when news of the appointment of Randy Weigand as the new General Manager, following his one-year hiatus after a long and successful stint in Havana/San Fernando. Over the course of his 19 year tenure, Weigand has won 52% of his games, made the playoffs 8 times, won 3 pennants and a Landis title. All of those numbers would be a significant boon to a Des Moines franchise that has not had a winning season since 2031 (when they won 83 games), and famously have not gone to the playoffs since the 2008 season.

When asked why he chose to come back to such a tortured franchise, Weigand offered the following explanation: "I have a long connection with the city of Des Moines, having spent my collegiate days there. This is one of the original franchises and while it has been having some tough times lately, I am ready for a challenge". When asked why he took time away and what lured him back Weigand said "I felt like I was spinning my wheels in San Fernando and the franchise needed a new voice to improve. I had actually planned on a longer break, in fact I turned down multiple BBA opportunities, but Des Moines was just too tempting of an opportunity to pass up".
