Des Moines Extends Yang
The Des Moines Kernels and 2B Chua-Kah Yang announced today that they have come to an agreement on a contract extension. Yang was heading into his final year of control and experts had the arbitrated salary estimated to be around $7 million. Both sides agreed to this amount for the 2048 season and then an additional $11 million per year for the next three seasons. This keeps the 28-year old a Des Moines Kernel until is 32 year. Yang is a good hitter slashing .240/.285/.513 with 45 HRs and 91 RBI in 2047. He’s also extremely popular with the fan base, so this extension is likely to help stem the exodus of fans in Edward Murphy Stadium.
The Des Moines front office is hoping that paired with Yokoyama, that they will have a pair of decently priced veterans that can anchor a team that will be relying on young and cheap talent for the foreseeable future. Whether or not the $11 million per year salary is a deal or a bust will be up to Yang. Any extension of a player who is in their late 20’s that carries into their 30’s is a risk for the front office, but from Des Moines perspective, locking in both Yang and Yokoyama at this point is case of going with the ‘devil you know’ compared to hunting free agents. Regardless, hard core Des Moines fans have already dubbed the duo YokoYang and are excited to see how the future roster will take shape around them.
They say it don't be like it is, but it do!
