RF Nori Knuckles a reversed his stance and opened up talks with the Kernels front office to extend his time in Iowa. Yokoyama took a hard line at the beginning of the season, refusing to even take GM Webb’s calls. The Kernels understandably, put Yokoyama on the trade block, hoping to at least get some compensation for him before he walked in the offseason.
This seemed to spur some self-reflection in the former Yakuza goon. Maybe it was memories of stealing other kids arcade credits that triggered him to put his own interests above himself and make some poor Midwest Iowans happy.
Either way, Yokoyama signed for 5 years and $49,500,000. This deal is neither too expensive or too long to at least go for.
Des Moines is rebuilding (can they truly be rebuilding if nothing has been built for 20+ seasons?!?!) but will need some veteran help as the latest crop of prospects make their way to the Bigs. Knuckles has never been a solid fielder and with the imminent departure this off season of Hugh Mangrouthormone, Yokoyama is likely to spend much more time at DH.
In a surprise move, Des Moines Extends Yokoyama
