Des Moines Not So Midseason Report

Not much to say about this squad since its another year of them being terrible.

Each year a new issue seems to replace an old issue and this year’s issue is the offence. The lineup features only five batters that are posting WRC+ above 100 and each of those five is barely scraping that threshold anyhow.

LF Brett White and RF Nori Knuckles are carrying the team in that regard and 2B Yang is helping driving in runs, which is good because he’s barely getting on base outside of that.

HGH is back to do HGH things but with an even worse OBP than usual (.224). The Kernels will be happy to be done with this experiment this offseason.

Rookie C Dave Butler has underwhelmed since being called up this season. Sounds like he’s headed back to the minors and the Kernels are going to give the other rookie C Andy Elmer a shot at the bigs for the rest of the season. One of these guys will be traded this offseason.

1B Juan Mateo is having a down year. His WAR has declined from 3.1 in 2044 and 2045 to -0.4 this season. Whether this is an ageing trend or just a “I’m sick of this shit in Des Moines” trend remains to be seen.

Pitching this season has been the same below-average as year’s passed. Donger Karnes and Larry Fain are quietly having a good but not great years. Rookie Deron Alexander is struggling mightily and is likely headed to the pen for the rest of the season.

Speaking of the pen, Bill Keil has returned and while it looks like his torn labrum has reduced his velocity, it isn’t translating to bad outings on the diamond. Rookie Daniel Camacho is continuing his starter-reliever yo-yo. If it weren’t for injuries, he’d likely be staying in the pen for a while longer.

Not going to touch on fielding, don’t even want to look to be honest.
 They say it don't be like it is, but it do!
