The Des Moines Kernels are happy to announce that they have signed their number 1 draft pick, SP Steven Clayton.

Clayton features a slider, curveball and cutter all of which project to be 9 or 10 grade pitches. Developing a 4th pitch would be icing on the cake, but right now, Clayton projects to be a front end starter.

He didn't come cheap though, the final damage to sign Clayton, was $8.5 million which was the entire Kernels organization budget for draft picks. The Kernels had planned to budget more money to sign all their picks but rumour has it, owner Stephen Collins Jr. took those extra millions and blew it on Cocaine, Yacht fuel and likely women.

Once this happened and Clayton's demands were laid bare, GM Webb had to make the strategic choice that having an All Star potential arm was more important than making the already deep minors even deeper.

The Kernels are at a crossroads yet again, but at least theirs A+ talent in the farm system. Now if only the owner cared more.
 They say it don't be like it is, but it do!
