From the Des Moines Register’s Beat Report Roh Rindfleisch

GM Webb 2 for 2 with top draftees.

Geoff Webb apparently went all in on first round draft pick Pitcher Deron Alexander and met the young man’s whopping $8,000,000 signing bonus demand. Cleary, after getting stung last year, the Kernels were not willing to leave this draft empty-handed again. They were also successful in corralling the 8th overall pick Catcher Dave Butler. That signing cost the Kernels an easy $2,400,000. Certainly, Webb will leave this draft feeling satisfied knowing that he got the 6th and 8th overall picks locked up.

Butler is already seeing time with the Short Season A Coco Cay Anglers and it sounds like the plan for Alexander is to get him pitching with the Single A Portsmouth Vikings.

Asked for comment, Webb said “This is just the start. We’ll keep adding to the farm however we can. This will be a long process, we’ve still got nasty contracts on our books and a long way to go to get into contention.”
 They say it don't be like it is, but it do!
