Kernels owner, Stephen Collins Jr., opened up his pocket book allowing General Manger, Ed Murphy, to go on a free agent spending spree. Ed was looking to produce more offence in the upcoming season. In 2040, the Kernels ranked in the bottom quarter in runs, batting average, on base percentage and slugging percentage in the Frick Division. Big names signing with the Kernels are second baseman Angel De Castillo, Outfielder Juan Santana, and first baseman Gervasio Ridder.

De Castillo signed for six years at 107 million dollars. Last season, De Castillo put up .309 batting average, .393 on base percentage, and .523 slugging percentage while playing for the Montreal Blazers and winning the Johnson League Charles Puckett Golden Bat Award . The question was asked “what will the Kernels do with second baseman Alan Williamson?” Ed said, “Williamson will be moving over to Short stop position and James Holman will move into an infield patoon roll. “

Santana also signed for six years for 53 million dollars. For the Phoenix Talons, Santana put up a .295 batting average, .345 on base percentage, .482 slugging percentage and 46 stolen bases.

Ridder signed for two years for 13.2 million dollars with the second year being a PA vesting option. Ridder on base percentage last season was .350. Ridder will be starting at first base with Willie Carter in the roll of a defense sub.

In closing, this year signees, also increase the Kernels fan interest by 14 points to 68 for the start of the 2041 season.

Des Moines issue is budget, not Cap space
