Kernels Team News 2038-01

Post by Edward Murphy » Sun Mar 17, 2019 3:06 pm

With the beginning of spring training just around the corner, Des Monies Kernels coaching staff, manager, Bill Welsh, and pitching coach, Jesus Banda, sat down and chatted about the new additions to the pitching staff.

First was Sergio Franco, Bill said “Sergio signed a five year, 42 million deal. He is a 5 year veteran playing on winning clubs like the New Orleans Crawdads and San Fernando Bears where he torn his shoulder labrum in 2037 and ended the season on the DL. Sergio has lost some movement but the pitches he throws are still above average. I see that he is popular in the clubhouse and is seen as a team leader”. Jesus said “Bill comes to us with a winning attitude. His overall career win/lost record is 31 – 29 and in the 2037 season, he was 9 – 2 with 78.2 innings pitched before his injury. Sergio has a good strike out to walk ratio giving up 149 walks and collecting 511 K’s. I feel he will be a great addition to the starting rotation.”

Aaron Campbell, signed a 3 year, 10.4 million deal and veteran, Miguel Macias, signed a 2 year, 6.7 million contract. Bill said “I like what I see in Miguel. He never shows any lack of effort, he is getting along with everyone in the club house, and has a great work ethic showing the younger players on the staff what is needed to win.” Jesus indicated “Jesus will be in the bull pen where he has collected 72 wins, a 3.95 ERA in 714 innings pitched over his career”.

Bill said “this is Aaron’s second stint with the Kernels. In2036, we traded for him with the Las Vegas Hustlers and were unable to sign him to an extension. Then he became a free agent and was signed with Mexico City Aztecs. The team is happy he signed the3 year, 10.4 million deal.” Jesus said “Aaron has lost a little stuff on his slider but we are hoping he gets it back in spring training”.

In closing, GM Ed Murphy, indicated “these 3 signings were a lot more about the players popularity and leadership in the club house, on and off the fielder, then their stats. I was looking for more fans in the seats.”

Franco's injury sucks...but at least it's "only" 3 months. Back in June?
