Kernels end of season in review 2036-06

Post by Edward Murphy » Sat Nov 17, 2018 12:21 pm

The Kernels went 79 – 83, finishing fourth in the Heartland Division, 22 games behind the Yellow Spring Nine. The big move for the Kernels came in September as they were able to get out of the bottom of the division going 18- 8 with a 12 game winning streak. The most felt injury came when starting pitcher, Ragnar Lothbrok, was lost for the rest of the season in August with a torn meniscus in his knee. At the time, Ragnar was 11 – 9. Last season, 19 game winner, Elwood Blues, was snake bit this season going 10 – 16, with 3 wins in his last 3 starts. Abel van Gastel lead the team with 24 saves, 6 wins, and 5 loses pitching a total of 75 innings, a 2.64 ERA, striking out 98 and walking 35.

The offense came through with familiar faces as William Moreland, lead the team with 38 home runs and second with 92 RBI’s. Catcher, Cisco Arreola, put up very similar numbers with 37 home runs and lead the team with 98 RBIS. Manager, Josh McConnell, was very surprise with rookie, Oliverio Luna, playing in 30 games with 89 at bats, Oliverio hit .258 avg, .316 OBP 7 home runs and 18 RBI’s.

Short stop, Dong-soo Chon, was traded mid-season to the Las Vegas Hustlers, where he was unable to event hit his weight, a .188 avg., for utility player Michel Lambert and 5 million in cash.

The Kernels played well against division rivals posting a winning record of 28 – 20, Madison 8-4, Omaha 3 – 9, Twin City River 9 – 3 and Yellow Spring 8 – 4.

The good news with Lothbrock is that the injury wan't his arm.

Yellow Springs will be going back to the chalkboard to see what we need to do to beat the Kernels next year. Grumble.
