TN Kernels going for it or not? 2035-10

Post by Edward Murphy » Sun Jul 29, 2018 9:54 am

Currently the Kernels are only one game under .500 with a record of 49-50. Since June 16, the Kernels have gone 20-10 moving them only 3 back in the wild card race. Rumors are floating that many unnamed front office staffers are telling GM Ed Murphy and owner Stephen Collins Jr. to make a push for the post season. The front office has given Ed Murphy a list of positions that are in need of improvement. With the removal of the financial burden of the Ernesto Chavez contract, the Kernels are in a better position to add quality talent to make the post season push.

This season the Kernels has a top rated pitching staff with an ERA of 4.08, third in the Flick League, and the team is at the top of many other categories. One reason is starter, Rangar Lothbrok, with a record of 11 – 4 and only 2 wins behind league leader Enrique Gómez with Rockville Pikemen. Also Elwood Blues is leading the team with a 3.02 ERA with 19 starts and a 10-5 record. In the second half of the 2034 season pitching Coach, Lyndon Copeman, moved Elwood from the pen to the starting rotation giving him 12 starts, 2-2 record, with a 3.95 ERA and 58 strike outs in 73 innings pitched. For the 2035 season Elwood started in the rotation and has started 19 games, with a 10-5 record, 119.1 innings pitch, given up 11 home runs and striking out 108 which leds the team. GM Ed Murphy could go out and pick up a veteran pitcher with a short term contract to make a good pitching staff even better.

Where the moves are likely to come from is at the plate. The Kernels are in the bottom half of most of the batting categories as a team with 3 starting players having an avg less than .200. The move for a player(s) with an above AVG and OBP would impact the team the most. What the Kernels bring to the table is defense with an elite short stop in Dong-soo Chon and CF Roberto Lopez. These players help lead the team to a defensive EFF of .716 which is first in the league and is the main reason the Kernels have given up only 419 runs, second in the league just behind California Crusaders with 364.

The spotlight player(s) the Kernels are likely to move are Catcher John Hale, Outfielders John Ginn, Héctor Cantú, Pitchers Brendon Carr, Carlos Rosales, Powell Canning, and Ramón Hernández.

This is great. You and I both post a TN at roughly the same time about making our moves to make the post-season or why we can make the post-season while we both sit in 4th and 5th in the division at the moment.

I believe the consensus on last night's AFBI was that this was the season to do it if you were willing to go all in....

Yeah, the Frick Wild Card seems wide open at the moment. One big move and any one of you guys has a chance. I'm going to root for Des Moines. A lot of people recently saying you should do this or you should to that. Make the playoffs and shut everyone up.
