All Star 2B Miguel 'Thrillseeker' Martínez (.247-33-83, 25SB) has been placed on the 7-day IL as a precautionary measure. The Montgomery, AL native has a 4.0 WAR, third on the team. In addition to his hitting exploits he has a 5.7 ZR at second. Rookie Jesús Rosito (.261-3-19) will start this week. Rosito recently had been starting the bulk of the games at second against LHP. He has a 1.7 ZR in 34 starts. At Triple-A El Paso he posted a 7.1 ZR in 30 games, as well as hitting .331. Rosito (6/6/5) was the 1st round pick for Des Moines in 2060.
In other news, SP Arnold Cantrell (8-5, 3.12) returned to the rotation after a six-week stay on the IL. He did not have his finest outing, as he allowed four runs in 5.1 innings in a no decision at Chicago, in which the Black Sox took three of four and slowed the Kernels momentum. The team then lost its home opener versus second place TWC. That series continues Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and then the Kernels head immediately for four at Omaha. Micah Harrington lost in the series at Chicago and is 0-2 for Des Moines. The word on the street is that it's improbable that the team can afford to re-sign Cantrell.
