He Who Walks Behind Rows Vol. 7 Ep. 1

The Kernels Are On A Streak

…a hot streak!

Seems like its been a millennia since Des Moines has strung some wins together, but the quiet bats are finally waking up and helping out the average pitching. The line up has been led by Chua-kah Yang who has contributed 3HRs, 7 RBIs and 8 hits during the 6-game win streak. Juan Mateo's bat is starting to wake up, possibly because it was rumoured that the Kernels were in pursuit of 1B Bartolo Ortiz as a replacement. Dave Butler moved into DH to replace the struggling Felix 'Matchbox' Parrenoo and 3B Steve Herbert is showing why the Kernels walked away from Anastasio Guillen.

This is the Des Moines team GM Webb no doubt thought he had, not a good team, but not terrible either. Truth be told, the 5-12 record in 1-run games suggests this team is more average than mediocre. The losses in these 1-run games can’t be pinned solely on the bullpen either, with almost every player hitting well below their potential, if even just a couple of hitters come around, Des Moines will be losing less 1-run games.

On the pitching mound, The Kernels starters have been ok, Larry Fain is leading this pack with a 2.23 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. Rafael Rodriguez, the opening day starter, is struggling. The 26-year old is coming off a good 2047 season where he pitched above average, but he can’t seem to get through a start without giving up 3 or more runs at this time. Des Moines might have to look to slot in a reliver into his spot in the rotation since the offense is clearly not ready to score a lot of runs.

This brins us to Manager Trey Williams. The Kernels’ hitting has been underperforming the last two seasons and one has to start to wonder if the bad relationship with the temperamental Williams may be holding this team back. Now that the Kernels have strung some wins together, Williams will be feeling a little less pressure, but make no mistake if the offense doesn’t start performing, Webb may pull the trigger and send Williams packing.
 They say it don't be like it is, but it do!
