Bandit Post, 2.0, 2004: If It's Between 75 and 85 wins...

It's a Birmingham Bandits team.

Birmingham assured that they would continue their streak of mediocrity this season with an uninspiring 5-5 sim that all but eliminated them from the playoff race. Just a game and a half out of the wild card at midseason, the Bandits were unable to maintain their momentum and muddled to a .500 record over the last two months of the season.

"It's been a good season here, but obviously it could have been better," said third baseman Ashton Fontenot. "We've played hard and done all we can do, but in the end it's not going to be enough this year."

There have been a number of highlights - and lowlights - this year, but Bandit Post is going to leave that to the end of year wrap in a week or so.

However, no matter what Birmingham does this year, they will not set their team record of 87 wins, a goal which seemed possible back in August when the team was 52-47 and right in the thick of the race. However, Birmingham would lose six straight games at that point, and eight out of ten, and would never again be back in the playoff hunt.

"It's been a long year," said outfielder Neville Byas. "We just hope that we can regroup and come back next year stronger."
