On the Lam, 54.3 - Pitching, defense and blackstone

Well, well, well (great beer by Mikerphone Brewery by the way) it has been a few weeks on the new job and things are definitely interesting in San Antone. We knew that the offense was bad since we will be paying McKay $26 mil over the next 3 years. At least he has a little offense I guess. And, interesting fact, he is player number 50,000 in the html. Fun facts! Worse for us is Owbridge. This dude is owed $65 mil over the next 5 years. So, long story short, is that we need to find out what to do with the offense. Look for the team to try and unload these two dudes somehow, someway. McKay is probably the easiest but time will tell.

The real story of the first two weeks is the team defense and starting pitching. We knew when we took a first look at the squad that defense and pitching would be the focus. There's not a ton of money tied up on the pitching side and the team actually has some young starters that could be the key in building this team. If we can get a handful of starters on their first contract deals and heading into arby that should free us up to add other key pieces. To that end we like what we see so far. The Outlaws are first in the Johnson League with a .705 team defense efficiency rating. That was good to see but surprisingly it would place the team in 6th place if they were in the Frick Heartland, with Twin Cities sitting in first at .756. Yikes. It will be good to see how things equalize as the season wears on. We have a ways to go to build the team the right way.

On the pitching side we were very happy to see two stats jump out. One is that out of the 5 complete games that were thrown by starting pitchers in the entire Monty over the first two sims the Outlaws have 2 of them. I love seeing that. We also have 2 shutouts which ranks first in the Johnson. That was cool to see also. 3rd year starter Kent Pickford threw a gem of a game on 4/10/2054, pitching a complete game shutout in a 4-0 win over Boise giving up 7 hits, zero walks and getting 5 K's. Veteran starter Alex Payne threw a gem two days later almost going a complete game in a 3-0 win over Vegas, throwing 8 innings of 3 hit ball. Veteran Kawano had the first complete game of the year for the Outlaws on 4/1/54 in a 3-1 loss against Edmonton when he allowed 4 hits and a pair of walks. The hope in Texas is that we can get these guys going with some great defense behind them and get a bunch of complete games out of them.

On the personal side, last night was the first run of our new Blackstone griddle. Had veggie fried rice and this things is amazing. Already dreaming up recipes for the weekend.

Hash browns on the blackstone are amazing. Get the dried hash browns from Costco. Add sausage, onions, peppers, etc.

Life is a bit more beautiful when time is measured by the half inning rather than the half hour.

Nueske's bacon, farm fresh eggs and dried ore-ida hashbrowns from a box on the the sunday brunch menu! I'll provide feedback. Later that day will be a full brisket. It'll be a good day!
