On the Lam - 54.1, New Sheriff in Town

San Antonio, TX - AP

NEW SHERIFF IN TOWN

With the stands at the TAP Room full to capacity for opening day there is a new excitement in the air in San Antonio for the 2054 Monty Brewster season. Early in the day news crews from all the local stations were set up to get a glimpse of the new GM. The team has been in a downward trend the last few seasons and they have not been above .500 for a full season since their championship season back in 2044. The last three seasons were especially hard;

2051 - 77-85, .475%, 5th Place
2052 - 74-88, .457%, 6th Place
2053 - 67-95, .414%, 6th Place

2053 attendance had dipped to levels not seen since the 2020's and the overall team morale was poor. The team was hemorrhaging money by losing nearly $6 million dollars for their 6th place finish. Since the Outlaws' back to back 1st place finishes in '43 and '44 they have not finished higher than 5th place in the Johnson Frontier. Things are about to change.

The big news of an otherwise very slow offseason was that the old GM was let go. Ownership searched high and low to find the right combination of experience, grit and determination that would be needed to guide the team through the darkest times in the last few decades. Possibly the biggest attribute that was needed was consistency with how the team was managed. To that end the Outlaws brought in an old veteran from the early days of the Brewster in GM Tim Meseck. Meseck had guided successful franchises in the past taking Marquette to back to back division titles in 2010 and 2011 and Yellow Springs to 3 first place finishes in 4 years during the 2016-2019 campaigns, finishing 4th in 2017. Along with stops in the EBA, coincidentally twice with London, he has the skill to guide a franchise. Some wonder if the owners should have brought in a GM who has won a championship but the owners believe that the drive to do so outweighed the experience of having done so.

Walking into the TAP Room hours before the game Tex News 01 grabbed this comment from the new GM;

"Our goal is to build this team for the long haul. I've heard about what Mexico City is doing down south and we all know the success of Nashville up North. We have some guiding lights to follow no doubt. Our immediate goal is to get excitement back to the TAP Room and make it a fun place for the fans. We have some interesting ideas brewing up and you all should be seeing good stuff happening here in San Antonio this year. Obviously we have some bad contracts and the budget needs to be fixed. However, we have a ton of young talent on this team and I am excited to get started on the rebuild."

Not much was discussed as to overall game plans but the expectation is that there will be a complete teardown and rebuild in San Antonio. Some youngsters like Blast McBearett and Manning have drawn interest from GM's around the league so it will be interesting to see if management sticks to their guns for the youth movement.

Wish I could run two teams. This rebuild seems fun.
