The Outlaw Chronicles 2043-7 Shakin Up The Lineup

Shakin Up The Lineup

A slight lineup change showed alot of promise this last week, and also produced a record tying performance.

Normal lead off hitter, SS Chip Puckett, has been grinding through a rough patch at the plate lately with a particular emphasis against right handed starting pitchers. Normally quite solid against RH's, Chip was batting a paltry .215 with a .245 OBP against them this year which is far below last years numbers or his career average.

"Not sure what the problem is, I am seeing the ball fine I am just having some terrible luck. Seem like nothing is finding a hole anywhere" Puckett stated after game against Edmonton on the 15th where he went 0-4 with 2 K's.

Manager Cameron Fookes decided a change needed to be made and new exactly which one he wanted to make. "I think Chuckie just needs take a step back and breath a little bit. He is an integral part of this team but he does not need to shoulder the load or do everything himself. Let's get him back into a comfortable rhythm and gear up for the All Star break".

After a coaches meeting, Fookes called CF Mennac Shakes into his office and informed him he would be leading off against RH pitchers during the foreseeable future. Shakes had been really producing against right handers so far this season batting .288 with a .354 OBP, he also has the speed that Fookes likes at the top of the lineup. An excited Shakes was immediately greeted after the meeting by Puckett who congratulated him and told him he was going to kill it in his new spot. Talk about prophetic words.

All Shakes does is go 11 for 20 with 1 HR and 3 RBIs' for a .550 BA, raising his average against RH's to .315 average. He produced 3 multi hit games out of 4 played and tied a San Antonio regular season record with 3 Doubles in a 1-0 loss to Charm City yesterday. With the offense humming along it is nice to have flexibility with the lineup.

let's hope we can keep things going forward.
