The Outlaw Chronicles 2043-5 Very Little Drama Episode 2

Very Little Drama Again

During episode 1, we took a look into the San Antonio Outlaws offensive plan for the 2043 season. In episode 2, we will now take a look into the Outlaws defensive plan and breakdown the starting rotation and bullpen.

2043 Starting Rotation
SP Ricardo Rivera
SP Aki Kondo
SP Ruben Vasquez
SP Yrrigs Carpenter
SP Luis Pasillas

Bullpen
CL Augate Balun
CL Luis Pina
MR Ramon Sanchez
MR Jorge Luna
MR Francisco Cardona
MR Nobuhito Kawakami
LR Jose Olivas

Heading into the 2043 season, there was expected to be slight change over in the pitching rotation and maybe some change in the pen. What we got at the end of spring was one big change and one little change to talk about.

Obviously, everything starts with Outlaws Ace and last years Nebraska Award winner Ricardo Rivera. Not much left for Rivera to do professionally, except maybe lead the Outlaws to the BBA promised land and be named the Landis MVP.

Veteran AKi Kondo, entering his seventh season with the Outlaws, was on fire last year and looks to keep it going in '43. A very steadying influence, he shows the young guys what it takes to be successful at this level.

The one BIG surprise of camp was the career arch of top prospect Ruben Vasquez. Once Vasquez stepped on the mound for the first time, and made everyone stand up and take notice, it wasn't long before the powers that be decided it was time to promote. The young Dominican looked absolutely ready for his chance to see the big league field and was awarded with a rotation spot, and was promptly placed in the #3 hole. Vasquez gives the Outlaws an vaunted looking gauntlet for the opposition to go through to win games.

Carpenter struggled last year, coming off a year on the IL, and never really looked comfortable. He struggled with command and constantly told his coaches he just can't seem to get a feel for his pitches or the game. But like a trooper he trudged through trying to help the Outlaws win. Carpenter came to camp looking stronger and throwing looser than he had in a long time so lets hope that is a preview of things to come.

Last years surprise, SP Luis Pasillas, brings up the rear in the rotation and may be one of the best #5 starters in the BBA. He struggled somewhat in the spring working on a new pitch but if can come close to last years number, this rotation will be dynamite.

The Outlaws traded for Balun last year during their playoff run and will be looking for him to take up where he left off. He did a great job for the Outlaws, but more importantly he took some of the heat off of Luis Pina and allowed him to get his feet under him. The Outlaws will head into 2043 with a different concept and have Balun and Pina as Co-Closers. Both did well in the spring so we will see if this works well during the season, or if someone rises up and takes control full time.

The Bullpen comes back from last year with one little exception. Rule 5 draftee Nobuhito Kawakami won a pen spot out of spring. Probably the least heralded of the 3 Rule 5 draftees by San Antonio. Kawakami pitched his way onto the opening day roster by not allowing a Run during his 9 innings of work striking out 7. He will join Jorge Luna, Ramon Sanchez, Francisco Cardona and Jose Olivas to round out the relievers.

One of these guys may be on a short leash as Seitaro Yamamoto is due to come off the DL in 2 weeks and may jump into the pen while he builds up his arm strength. The Outlaws have the makings of a winning club, all they have to do now is win.

Yes, carpenter had lost something... but he's still got a lot left, and he's a number 4.

The rotation and late inning relievers are just beastly. I don’t envy Outlaws opponents this year.
