Sim 8 Review
The week that everyone in the Outlaws organization had been pointing to had finally arrived. A three game set versus the best team in their division, the mighty Edmonton Jackrabbits, was here and the team was ready to answer some question about itself. At the end of the week, the Outlaws had to be feeling satisfied at the successful sim and how everyone on the team stepped up proved that the early season success of the Outlaws was no fluke.
Game of the Week
May 20th, San Antonio vs Edmonton at The Tap Room
Outlaws 2 - Jackrabbits 1
It wasn't pretty, but this game is important because of how they won. This was the type of game that the old Outlaws would have crumbled and lost, but these Outlaws fought the entire game and even though they made things difficult on themselves they were able to prevail against a great team.
Tied at 1 each with Edmonton going into the bottom of the ninth, the Outlaws had survived 3 errors, two by SP Luis Pasillas that cost them an unearned Run, and another by SS Chip Puckett on a crazy hopper just off the tip of his glove to have a chance to win in regulation.
Up steps 2B Quint Coppard, who has been on fire this season having just come off a 21 game hitting streak, and looking very confident as he strolled to the plate. Sitting at a 2-1 count, Coppard drove a Jose Torres fastball into the left-center gap for a stand up Double
Sensing the game was on the line, Edmonton brings in hard throwing Ignacio Castaneda hoping to send this game into extras. The moved looked to be working to perfection as Castaneda induced two weak ground outs from Puckett and Valentin Fritas, with Coppard moving to Third on the latter at bat, to set up a showdown with potential ROY candidate 1B Larry StinsonThe showdown proved to be inconsequential as a wild pitch from Castaneda brought Coppard home from 3rd and gave the Outlaws their 2-1 final score.
Batter of the Week
"Gasoline" Kamade: Talk about catching fire. After hitting a pedestrian .242 in April, Kamade is tearing the cover off the ball at a .404 clip in May. Kamade ended the week with 19 AB's, 8 Hits, 2 HR's, 6 RBI's and a .421 BA. He is feeding off of the electricity in the dugout and really stepping up his game.
Pitcher of the Week
SP Luis Pasillas: No one could have seen this coming but the 26 yr old Argentine has really come through in the clutch. In the 6 Starts he has attempted so far he is 3-1 with a 3.12 ERA. If there was ever an example of "the light switch coming on" it was this guy. Let's hope he can keep it going and give the Outlaws a formidable 4 SP rotation.
