The Outlaw Chronicles 2042-14 Draft Update

Draft Update

With 3 picks in the top 50 of the 2042 Amateur Draft, the San Antonio Outlaws were hard at work in their war room in preparation. While the end results will not be known for many years, GM Calvaruso and the Outlaws faithful should be pleased with how things have fallen so far.

The Outlaws started with the #3 overall pick, and was anxious to see if one of the top rated SP would fall into their lap. They did not, so with the #3 overall pick, the Outlaws selected RF Pedro Bustamante. The 21 yr old from Oruro, Bolivia was thought by some to be the second best prospect in this draft and comes with very high praise.

One BBA scout was quoted "He projects to hit for a high average with his smooth swing. He shows tremendous raw power. He is a very sure-handed and reliable Right Fielder and should project to be an elite player". The Outlaws chose Bustamante over 1B prospect Pancho Costa and LF prospect Jose Romero basically because their are already young players in place at both those positions.

Still in the first round, with the 12th overall pick, the Outlaws were tickled to get SP Melvin Simpson. The power righty from Lubbock, TX still has some growing to do but at 18 still has time to fill out his frame. Simpson has a three pitch mix (Fastball, slider, changeup) with an Over the Top arm slot. He consistently sits in the 93-95 mph range and typically pitches down in the zone inducing alot of ground balls.

BBA scouting had this to say "When fully developed, he should have all three of his pitches as quality offerings. He is a young pitcher with growing command and great poise on the mound. He won't beat himself with walks. I can see him as an eventual mid-rotation starter if not more"

At pick 43, #3 in the second round, the Outlaws stayed with pitching and selected 17 yr old Nathanial Davis . The tall lefty from Elizabet, NC has had a successful High School career and many think he will have a successful pro career as well. More of a finesse pitcher, like most lefties, Davis offers a 4 pitch mix (Fastball, changeup, slider, forkball) and has the typical 3/4 arm slot. He is currently in the 90-92 mph range but has plenty of room to grow. His work ethic has been lauded by his high school coaches.

The scouting report on Davis is "His four pitch arsenal includes a Bugs Bunny changeup, a nice slider, a plus fastball and a forkball that won't fool too many hitters. His pitches have plenty of movement that should help to keep the ball in the park. Davis should become a solid starter but his stuff could prove valuable in relief also".

The only thing left to do is sign these guys and get back to work.

Life is a bit more beautiful when time is measured by the half inning rather than the half hour.
