Rivera Gets Extension
To continue with a recent theme of signing their young stars to extensions before the jump into arbitration, the San Antonio Outlaws signed probably the most important player in their entire organization to a contract extension.
SP Ricardo Rivera signed a 3 yr contract extension wortha total of $22,650,000 or an average of $7,550,000/yr. Both parties seemed excited at the presser, with GM Calvaruso almost giddy. "We try very hard to work out deals that fit both parties and luckily we were able to do so with Rico. We are delighted to have him stand as the Ace of the staff for the next 3 years and beyond".
Rivera, for his part, seemed very relaxed and satisfied with the contract he and his agent Jerry Macguire were able to iron out. "I am comfortable here in San Antonio and am grateful that GM Calvaruso, and the San Antonio organization think so highly of me. Now it's time to go out and win a Landis for the great city of San Antonio".

that is a lot of money to guarantee, especially to a guy with only 1 full BBA season (and a torn labrum in his recent history).

It's always a gamble, but IF he stays healthy and pitches like he can his demands could be in the upper teens range by year two. Calculated risk

A guy with his talent, you lock up as long as you can. Definitely worth the risk.

Agreed. You don’t take chances with a guy like that.
