The Outlaws Chronicles 2042-4 Outfield Decisions

Outfield Decisions

The San Antonio Outlaws have 40 People on their spring training roster and 9 of those make their home in the Outfield. Let's break down the current list of contenders for the 3-5 spots available

Image
LF Valentin Fritas: As lock as a lock can get. The young Brazilian has been a solid force since breaking into the lineup in 2039. His 3 year stats go 238 Runs, 500 Hits, 147 Doubles, 61 HR's, 265 RBI's, .310 BA, .368 OBP, and a WAR of 6.6. Not to shabby for a 2nd round draft pick.

CF Mennac Shakes: Shakes established himself out of the Spring last year and wound up wrestling the CF job from FA addition Abdelwahab Kamade. He was solid in his Freshman season giving 119 Hits, 55 Runs, 50 RBI's and a .259 BA. He struggled on the base paths with 22 Steals and 24 Caught Stealing and was required to do some work with the roving base running instructor this Winter, but on e place he did not struggle was his defense as he gave the Outlaws a +3.7 ZR and only 3 errors in 400 total chances.

Image
RF Abdelwahab Kamade: The aforementioned Kamade was signed in 2041 FA and had been designated to play CF for the Outlaws. Kamade was shifted over to RF, taking over for eventual FA loss Mark White and really excelled. A +4.8 ZR really was one of the few positives from the disastrous 2041 season. A steady offensive threat, he should see more of the same in 2042.

Image
LF Tony Vega: 25 year old Vega has been a bit of a late bloomer for San Antonio and has provided solid, off the bench production, for the Outlaws the last two years. Depending on how things shake out this year, there is a chance he could take the DH spot left with the trade of Mahdi Kojo but there are too many other variables in play at the moment.

Image
RF Troy Spargo: Spargo had a monster year in AAA Austin in 2041 and was rewarded with a call up where he really wasn't given a chance to do much. An exceptional Work Ethic and his ability to be a sparkplug on the field have endeared himself to the coaching staff and management. He has one option year left and may be sent back to Austin for one final should he get a slow start in the Spring.

Image
LF Long "Ding Dong" Chamberlain: A September waiver claim from Phoenix last year, Chamberlain has made enough of an impression to be considered for an opening day roster spot. In VERY limited action late last year, he showed some Power, some On Base ability and a good understanding of the game. His strong Work Ethic rubbed off on everyone in the OF room and there should be a place for him in the starting San Antonio outfield, just maybe not this year. A little more tweaking on his swing should help him increase his Contact rate and become an even more valuable member of the Outlaws future.

Image
RF Pedro "Tornado" Hernandez: Another late bloomer who had a "cup of coffee" late last season with successful results. Hernandez is another one destined to begin the year in AAA Austin but management is confident that if when the inevitable call-up happens he will be more than ready.

Image
CF Altificio Roseta: The youngster currently looks to have a future as a 4th Outfielder but still has some work to do. Roseta has not played above AA so an assignment to AAA Austin is more realistic in 2042.

Image
CF Wes Savage: Late FA pickup Wes Savage, on the surface, has the lead spot for the backup OF spot. A 7 year BBA veteran can play all OF spots and has a satisfactory offensive approach. He has Always struggled with Southpaws and will probably never be called upon to face a Lefty on the mound but in an emergency the Outlaws could do worse.

Well there you have it folks, another game of "Who's Job Is It Anyways" for the San Antonio Outfield. There are a lot of moving parts in the Outlaws spring camp in 2042 as they desperately try to erase the horrible shit taste of 2041 out of their mouths. The Outlaws spring training home of Fluffy Landing, FL will be buzzing with excitement for the next few weeks.
