The Outlaws Chronicles 2041-10 Draftees Sign

Draftees Signed

The San Antonio Outlaws announced the signing of 4 of their top 5 draft picks with contract terms.

Rd 1 - SP Reid Jensen : The 21 yr old RH from Portage, MI signed for a $1.5 million bonus. The second of two first round picks has been placed at SA Aruba. Even though he is already 21, there is still room for growth. A solid 4 pitch mix with very good movement. Potential mid rotation starter is his projection.

Rd 2 - 3b Yekoyasi Mugema: The 21 yr old from Cameroon signs for $640k. Drafted lower than he was projected, Mugema has a mature bat and the defense to let him stick at the hot corner. Placed at SA Aruba but should move quickly once he gets acclimated.

Rd 3 - SP Juan Garza: SIgned for $1.8 million which was well above slot. The high schooler from Nicaragua offers a 4 pitch mix with a potentially wicked Knuckle Curve. A lot of room for growth but he has shown the intelligence to grasp what his coaches tell him. Studies opposing hitters constantly.

Rd 4 - SP Ruben Vasquez: 18 yr old from Dominican Republic signed for $220k. Live armed righty was alot of work to do to harness that arm. Very wild but also unhittable at times. Future back end starter is projected.

The Outlaws did also announce that top pick, SS Larry Barkin has broken off negotiations and has decided to go to College. Some lofty demands from the 18 yr old proved to much for the Outlaws to extend.

Too bad about Barkin - he looks pretty good. Nice consolation prize in Jensen, though. Very promising young pitcher. Love the movement, and his pitches are all moving towards development. He’ll be one to watch.

Barkin may wind up being better not signed. But, yes, bummer for now.

I tend to agree with you. Not too broken up about his not signing.
