And The Hits Keep Coming

The San Antonio Outlaws season can officially be called a failure. The latest gut punch comes in the form of, yet another, season ending injury to a pitcher. SP Yrrigs Carpenter has fallen victim to he dreaded Tommy John surgery, the second of his career, and will miss the next 13 months also killing his start to the 2042 season.

Carpenter has had difficulty recreating his Nebraska Arm season of 2038 but had easily been the 2nd best pitcher for the Outlaws and was having a decent season so far. His loss forces another youngster into the starting rotation of a struggling team in a brutally competitive conference. The Outlaws have fallen 20 games behind and are sitting at 20-45 on the year. A far cry from where they were expected to be this season.

The Outlaws have truly been an enigma this season with a team, that at least, on paper looked like it could be competitive and some solid big league pieces in the lineup. Unfortunately, things have not gone as planned and there have been a lot of head scratching in the front office.

They starting lineup has 23 yr old 3B Lucio Cuellar leading off and in the middle of another fine season batting .301 with 50 Runs scored and a robust 32 SB's making him the perfect table setter. 21 yr old LF Valentin Fitas is on his way to a solid third season currently hitting .304 with 37 RBI's. He is a little behind in the power department but his OBP is up. 1B Tony Hernandez is having a slightly down year but is still hitting .266 with 33 RBI's. FA pickup Jose Estrada has really been a great pickup for the Outlaws and provided the power that this team was searching for with his 17 HR's so far this season. 20 yr old Mennac Shakeses has thrived in his first season with the club as he has taken over CF and pushed Abdelwahab Kamade over to RF where he has been a solid option. Before the injury bug, the Outlaws boasted a very good looking starting rotation with Aki Kondo, Carpenter and Ricardo Rivera leading the way, but again, has seen them woefully underperform.

It doesn't take a blind man to see that this season could be a turning point in the the franchise moving forward and there will be a lot of late night s trying to get a grip on what needs to happen to right this ship.
