Alvarez Hits IR
Outlaws SP Jorge Alvarez walked off the mound against Boise last Thursday and knew something was wrong. He had just started the top of the 6th inning, getting Ramon Vela to fly out to Right field when he felt a sharp stabbing pain in his right shoulder. No stranger to injury, Alvarez immediately started walking to the dugout, cussing and yelling and holding his arm loosely by his side.
trainers rushed out to meet him but he just brushed past them and went straight into the tunnel and the locker-room. A follow up MRI the next day confirmed everyone's fear as Jorge had suffered a torn rotator cuff and his 2040 season was officially over.
Alvarez was in the middle of a fine start to the season holding a 5-3 record with a solid 3.75 ERA and 92 k's in 74.1 innings. This is a bitter pill to swallow for someone who had missed the entire 2038 season with a ruptured UCL and rehabbed himself back to the big league rotation.
Manager Owens was subdued at the press conference "We are all disgusted about this and feel terrible for Jorge. He has worked his ass off since last season and had been one of our more consistent starters so far. He will be sorely missed but all we can do is move forward"
The team has initially put SP Jose Olivas back into the rotation after being sent to the pen to work on repeating his delivery but whether that remains will be looked at over the next few weeks.
