This is a feature that I have been thinking about for some time, and would always put it off for one reason or another.
I came into the league in the 2006 season and one of my favorite features of BBA is our Custom Ammy’s. Don’t know why, I just enjoy the ability to create future players from our imaginations and have truly enjoyed seeing everyone’s contributions.
I did not start out with any central theme, I made some names up but I did find myself starting to use character names from old movies, tv shows, old westerns and old film noir shows. I have decided to break down my creations, with some back story, an idea of where my names came from and a look at where they are now
2007:
Winston "Smokes" Thibodeaux
My first creation obviously, Winston was just a made up name with no real meaning. The nickname Smokes is in reference to the Winston cigarettes I remember my dad smoking when I was young.
He made two brief showing in the Majors, both with Montreal and he amassed a total of 45 games played. He retired in 2023 and moved back to his hometown of Houma, Louisiana where he opened a hardware store and regularly coaches little league baseball.

2008:
Daniel Ocean
For any film buffs this one should be obvious. Who could forget the iconic character played originally by Frank Sinatra in the 1960 hit Ocean’s 11. The remake with Clooney was actually pretty good, but no one out-does Frank.
Ocean actually had a good career, all as a reliever, that spanned 18 big league season from 2013 to 2030. It would seem his pinnacle was winning a Landis trophy in 2021 while with the Calgary Pioneers.
Ocean, originally from Baton Rouge, LA retired in 2032 and moved to Biloxi, MS where he opened a Gulf fishing charter with his Wife Beatrice.

2009:
Inigo Montoya
Another movie name here as my favorite character from the 1987 cult classic, A Princess Bride. Who can forget the most famous quote from Mandy Patinkin “Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die”.
Montoya did nothing to distinguish himself during his career. He played professional ball for 10 years and made it to the big show in 2015 and appeared in 19 games in relief. He retired in 2018, moved back to New Orleans, Louisiana and runs a daiquiri shop on Bourbon Street and takes pictures with the tourists.
He did run an alligator swamp tour but was shutdown after the accident, but to be honest that old woman should not have been leaning out of the boat, but I digress.

Cord McNally
McNally was my first player from the old Western genre. I am an old western’s movie fan and love some of the old names they used. McNally was the main character, played by John Wayne, in the 1970 movie Rio Lobo
McNally had himself an honorable career, lasting 13 years in the bigs, arriving in Long Beach for the 2015 season. His best season was in 2020 where he made 32 starts with a 14-11 record. He pitched 242.1 Innings, and struck out 160 batters and ended the season with a 4.5 WAR.
He retired in 2028 and moved back to San Antonio where he works his farm in a peaceful and quiet setting.
