Kondo Extended
The number one priority for GM Calvaruso this offseason was to figure out how he could get star Pitcher,Aki Kondo, signed to a contract extension. Well, through some creative accounting, and a huge commitment for Owner Walter Sobchak, the Outlaws were able to do just that.
In what some believe is the largest contract ever offered by the Outlaws, Kondo was signed to a 6 yr, $149 Million dollar contract. It took some tight negotiations on both sides, but Kondo and his agent actually helped the process by allowing the team to backload the deal and squeeze in his contract under a tight window in the 2040 budget with a modest $8mil cap hit. The contract jumps considerably in 2041 shooting to $25mil and then $30mil in 2042. Kondo's agent had us put in some protection for his client in 2043 with a Players Option, but it seems unlikely that they would give up an additional $30mil paycheck. The Outlaws then hold a $28mil Team Option for the 2044 season and giving the Outlaws some protection as Kondo hits 30 yrs old.
This could turn into a Win/Win for everyone, or it could blow up in GM Calvaruso face and devastate the team financially for the next 6 years, but sometimes you just have to go big of go home.
