The Outlaws Chronicles 2038-6 Outlaws Draft for Depth

San Antonio Targets Offense

San Antonio GM, Mike Calvaruso, went into the 2038 Amateur Draft with the goal of adding depth in his farm system and it appears he has done just that.

Picking 6th in the first round, the Outlaws decided to target elite power and with their first selection took 17 yr old Puerto Rican 1B Larry Stinson. Stinson offers prodigious power potential from the left side of the plate and adequate enough defense to stick at 1B for his career. Once he starts to add a little muscle to his 6'3", 190 lb frame the power numbers could spike even higher. Know for having a High Work Ethic, Stinson was exactly what the Outlaws were looking for in round one.

Round two saw the Outlaws grab another big bat, this time getting 17 yr old Dominican 3B Alfredo Rosas. Plus Contact, Plus Power and a great eye make for a lethal combination for a hitter and Rosas processes all three. He also brings above average defense at the hot corner with a cannon arm and should be a fixture for the Outlaws infield for years to come.

Round 3 brought the first Pitcher to the Outlaws draft board with the selection of CL Fernando Rangel . Rangel's representatives had been very positive toward the Outlaws brazz heading into the draft, but once they sat down at the negotiating table things turned sour. Rangel's team has demanded First Round money, $3.2 mil, or they would not sign. GM Calvaruso told them to go F*#% themselves and threw them out the building so he will not be signing with San Antonio.

Round 4 brought 2B Juan Feliciano into the fold for San Antonio. Infield depth, specifically 2B, was a focus for GM Calvaruso for this draft. "I was hoping to add to our system infield depth without having to over reach and I believe we have done just that". A spray hitter with some pop, he looks to be a future top of the order bat, probably a #2 as it looks now.

As always, it will remain to be seen just how well these players adjust as they make their way through the minor leagues and how quickly we will see them in Outlaws uniforms.

It was a good year to target offense. :)

Hmm, was it? It seemed like there were more highly rated bats than arms. So if pitching is already hard to find, doesn't a draft of more bats just make bats less valuable? (Says the guy who always drafts and build pitching, with absolutely no bias.)

It all depends on the development engine ... so, who knows, eh?

Can't really evaluate a draft until several years later, right?
