Buckland Out Again

In what has become a right of passage for the San Antonio Outlaws, another major injury has befell the proud franchise. Starting Pitcher Elliot "Snow God" Buckland has found himself heading the disable list yet again, and this time he will not be coming back anytime soon.

Buckland felt pain in hi elbow after throwing a pitch in his game against Las Vegas on Thursday and was immediately taken out. Dread fell over the fans in San Antonio as the next day the decision was made to visit Dr. James Andrews for a final diagnosis. Buckland had suffered the worst and will undergo Tommy John surgery to repair the elbow ligament.

GM Mike Calvaruso was quite disgusted, as you can imagine, and did not let his disdain for Buckland show at the press conference. "I have never seen a stretch of injuries to a franchise such as ours. The entire organization is at a loss for words, but all we can do is move on and hope that the next person in line steps up and keeps the season going in the right direction.

Things were no better for Buckland, as he sat there waiting to be interviewed it was obvious the he was a broken man. The 40 yard stare and dejected, disheartened voice of a man that has endured a lot in his short career. "I just don't know what to go from here" was all Elliot could say as teammates and organizational employees passed by given him their condolences.

As of press time, SP Fernand Richard had been recalled from AAA Austin to fill the open rotation slot. Richard was pitching well in Austin sitting with a 7-1 record and 2.45 ERA in 9 games. Richard had some success last year in the Outlaws rotation going 8-14 with a 4.65 ERA in 28 games.

Word also hit the street that Buckland had been unceremoniously released with an injury settlement. "I don't want him around the team anymore in case that bad juju rubs off on anyone else. Better to just cut ties and move on" GM Calvaruso said.

The Ballad of Wick and Buckland reaches its final refrain. Such fun they could have been.
