The Outlaw Chronicles 2036-17 Year of the Debut

Outlaws Debut 5

No team ever wishes for a bad season, but having a bad season does offer you the opportunity to tinker with your lineup and experiment with different things. It also gives your minor league prospects the opportunity to get called into the managers office and be informed he is about to get on a flight to the show. This is what happened to five members of the San Antonio system during the 2036 season.

SP Mubale Petiri: 22 yr old SP Mubale Petiri was a late September call-up. The 6'2" Moroccan displayed solid Stuff at AAA Austin with two good out pitches in his Fastball and Curve and a solid third pitch with his Splitter. Control was an issue, which is normal for a power pitcher, but something that should get better with age. Alas, the call-up was a pure let down as Petiri pitched in three games before feeling soreness in his elbow. MRI's confirmed the sad truth that Mubale had ruptured his UCL and would be going under the knife, effectively ruining his 2037 season as well. "Calling guys up can is always a gamble, and this time we rolled snake eyes" said GM Calvaruso.

RP Xavier Perez: Perez was called up right after the Austin Rattlers season had ended and started three games for San Antonio. A starter in AAA, it looks more and more like Xavier will be moved to the pen for the 2037 season. A hard thrower with good Stuff and Control, but he has been unable to develop his Curveball into an effective third pitch which usually spell doom for a starter. Perez will be in spring camp to see if he can handle the switch to the pen properly.

1b Albert Carrasco: The plan had been to let Carrasco get another full year of seasoning in AAA before bringing him up, but with the season going in the tank early, and 1B Dan Leonard not able to repeat his fine 2035, the decision was made to bring Albert up in June. The move turned out great for both San Antonio and Albert as he took his opportunity and ran away with it, showing no fear against the BBA pitchers. Carrasco finished his debut season with a .297 BA, 18 HR, 44 RBI, and 43 Runs, taking firm handle of the First Base job for 2037.

1B/DH Andy Seekins: Another bopper got the call in early June meeting with mixed results. There are some in the organization that said the shuttling between San Antonio and Austin three times during the season hurt his ability to get comfortable making his BA suffer, but his power potential was undeniable. Seekins belted 14 HR's in only 255 AB's mainly from the DH position. Seekins is another body that will be in spring camp with a job for his to lose.

RF Cipriano Martinez: Some guys are destined to get the call for a promotion, and some guys force you to promote them, Martinez falls in the second catagory. All he did was hit wherever he went and San Antonio was no exception. While maybe not a superstar, he has shown the ability to be a solid to very good hitter with Power and OB ability. Martinez finished 2036 with a .280 BA, 18 HR's, 61 RBI's and 51 Runs. The only issue will be where does he play since he is an outfielder by trade but has very limited range. It is a good problem to have for San Antonio as he gives them options and that is never bad.

There will obviously be more call-ups next season as SP Yrrigs Carpenter and 1B Manuel Nunez have little left to prove in the minors, but things don't always work out like expected do they.

Looks like things will finally be starting to turn around in San Antonio. I love your SS Pedro Suárez. That guy is a vacuum and will help out all your young pitchers.
