The Outlaw Chronicles 2036-2 Rule 5 Draft

Rule 5 Draft

The San Antonio Outlaws finished the Rule 5 Draft with a 1-1 record tacking a Catcher and losing a infielder.

With the 2nd overall pick in Round 1 of the Rule 5 draft, San Antonio selected 27 yr old Catcher Ricardo Arellano from the Calgary Pioneers organization. Arellano has above average defensive tools with a +1.4 ZR and a CS% of 30.2 from last season. Arellano is also handy with a bat having a three year batting average of .268 all the while chipping in 15 HR's and 49 RBI's in 2035.

GM Calvaruso was very pleased when discussing the acquisition to everyone during his radio show. "We were very excited to see a player of Arellano's quality in the Rule 5, especially with it being a position of need for us. He is an above average backstop, both offensively and defensively, but more importantly he has been described as an awesome leader in the clubhouse by several reliable sources". This will probably be one of the few moves made by San Antonio during the offseason as a major rebuilding year looms.

On the flip side, the Outlaws lost 2B Drake Adams to the Omaha Hawks. Adams was drafted by the Hawks with pick 16 in the second round of the Rule 5 draft. Adams offers some upside but was viewed as nothing more than organizational depth by the Outlaws. GM Calvaruso touched on this also, "Screw that dude, they can have him".

Now the Outlaws will get ready for the start of the season and the upcoming Amateur Draft.

Sometimes the direct approach is the best.

I kind of like Arellano.
