The hits just keep on coming for the Birmingham Bandits. After posting a sparkling 19-9 record in June, Birmingham has posted a 4-2 record in July and has captured a share of the wild card lead. Word on the street has it that Birmingham is working on a couple of potentially big deals, and if they manage to pull off a deal that will move them forward, this is a very dangerous Birmingham club.
"We're pretty excited around here recently," said Rich Garces, one of the Bandits' three All-Stars. "There's been a lot of buzz around the clubhouse and we've definitely woken the bats up."
Birmingham's offensive success can be directly traced to the return of Monty Lynch and Billy Ashley to the lineup, but also directly related to installing Dan "Little Dude" Wachowski as the leadoff man. Wachowski has a spectacular .351 batting average for the Bandits this season, and this Rule 5 pick is looking like a major bargain.
"Usually, when you get a Rule 5 pick, you don't expect the guy to come in and be a top ten guy in batting average, but that's what Dan's done," said hitting coach Al Bluhm. "It's a great feeling having a guy like that who comes in every day and works his tail off."
Will Birmingham continue to climb the standings? Will they be able to hold onto a tie for the wild card? Nobody knows for sure, but it's certainly gotten the fans excited.

He's 5' 10", 166 pounds, so the only drug he's probably taking is Dexatrim.

I don't get Lynch. If I remember correctly, he's not rated as fragile, but even when I had him he was constantly on the DL. And they were annoying trips like "6 days for an ingrown toenail." I almost wished he would go ahead and break an arm or snap an ACL so at least I wouldn't have to wonder where he was going to be for all 10 games of the next sim...
