Surpringly, the Birmingham Bandits have overcome several early injuries and stand 21-24 this season, just three games out of the wild card lead. The Bandits, who were missing 3 members of their lineup, have weathered the early season storms and are looking to maintain some momentum going into June.
"We were hopeful that this season would turn out well," said manager Margarito Escobar. "This is not too bad considering all the problems we've had."
How bad have the injuries been at this point? Monty Lynch and Billy Ashley have had a combined 24 games played this season. Superior defender Hank Felicetti has seen only 22 games this year. The team has had to give 120 at bats each to the likes of Tim Naehring, Glen Linehan and John Wright, and a startling 80 at bats to backup outfielder Warren Griffin.
Despite that, the pitching, led by Alex Khodorkovsky, has been rock-solid this season. Birmingham is currently a solid fourth in the league in team ERA, which is buoying their flailing offense.
"It's been a mess around here, but we've got all our guys, so it's time to get it back on track," said Ashley. "It's nice to have everyone healthy for a change."

Brutal injury run for you, but you've managed to stay the course and remain in the race. Nice job!
