The Omaha Cyclones missed out on the 2061 playoffs by 4 games on the last wild card spot but there is much to be happy about this season. Omaha improved by 11 games this year and for the first time in 5 years was also able to make a profit on the season. We was able to get so much leaner while also getting better as a team in 2061 I am really pleased with the 2061 season GM Spencer said. We have a lot of positives going for us as we head into the 2062 season.
Omaha jumped out to a fast start in April and May and then June came and the Cyclones went 11-17 to lose their positive momentum and played just a little under .500 the rest of the way. Obviously, we would have loved to play like April and May all season but that did not happen. The good news is once we hit a rough patch we was able to stop the slide and finish well. We believe the guys learned how to win this season and played in games that mattered all season outside the final week. This is how you establish a wining environment by playing in games that matter GM Spencer said.
As we head into the 2062 season we have to figure out how to win on the road. Omaha was 35-46 on the road this season and 49-32 at home. We definitely need to work on having a team that can consistently rather at home or on the road and we intend to do that. This was definitely a squad that put pressure on defenses. Omaha was 3rd in the league in extra base hits and 5th it hits. We did a very good job of getting guys on base and letting them cross the plate. Overall we was happy with our pitching and our offense but our defense will definitely need addressed this offseason.
For the most part most of this team will be returning next season. Most of the expiring guys probably won't return next season, when we brought some of those guys in they was stop gap guys for us. Omaha is looking at a good budget increase and we are excited to see what that can do for us. You could find us aggressive in Free Agency, International signings or Trades this offseason GM Spencer said. The nice thing about this offseason is we feel like we have a lot of flexibility. We don't intend to force anything but rather let the offseason play itself out and see where it takes us.
We do have some coaches we have to look at in the minor league level but we anticipate most of the coaches in Omaha to return next season. I thought our coaching staff did an excellent job last season and many of our younger players had great progress last season. I know we have to complete the playoffs and Omaha will not be part of it but I can't wait for the offseason to start GM Spencer said. We want to make the playoffs next season that is our goal and we won't stop until we get back into the playoffs.
