Despite playing .500 ball since June, Omaha decided to make a major move by moving SP Arturo Meza and moving him to Bikini. In return Omaha received SP John Parrish, prospect Hector Porrett and something Omaha despeteraly needed 7 million in cash. As an organization we realize moves like this are not always the most popular and when you compare talent for talent sometimes it can create frustration among the fan base.
With the amount of dollars, we are on the hook for we had to find ways to reduce the payroll and bring in some cash to cover some of these deals. Omaha is losing money this season and was expecting to have a pretty significant loss in budget next season. We would have had to face some decisions to cut scouting and development or even not signing draft picks. This should ensure that we can invest into our farm like we like to do. In addition we gained a little flexibility to make future moves.
We are going to try to rebuild this franchise from the bottom up GM Spencer said and the first thing we have to fix is our finances. We will continue to be fairly restricted the next couple seasons on guys that we can move and contracts we can shed but we will continue to try to find creative alternative ways to make this organization better. We are hoping this offseason that we will have the money to take a few flyers on a few guys to see if they can win a spot in the club. We need competition in Omaha and we needs guys that are hungry and want to win. We are looking forward to this first major step in rebuilding this organization.
