Omaha offered $15 family pricing just a few seasons ago, and kept their pricing relatively low last season, including the playoffs. Those days appear to be over, as the club announced today that if you elected not to purchase season tickets at the price of $18.00, then you would now pay an extreme premium of over 500%.
That’s right, opening day tickets in Omaha are being sold by the ticket office at an average price of $100. This may be the first time in Brewster Baseball history that a team has hit triple digits on their pricing.
“We aren’t looking at this as pricing out our fans. Most of our fans who want to come to the game are season ticket holders. A good chunk of gate tickets come from the visiting team’s fans coming in. We share a portion of that revenue with the visiting team, why wouldn’t we want to charge them more?” said Omaha GM Justin Niles.
It remains to be seen whether this 500% increase is a permanent one, or whether the front office just has it planned for the opening week of the 2055 season. It was announced just a few weeks ago that Omaha had shattered their attendance record last season.
I wouldn’t expect a similar outcome this year based on this pricing.
