Omaha/Negrete agree to 5 year extension.(55.10)

Post by niles08 » Wed May 24, 2023 2:03 pm

We reported on it just yesterday, and apparently somebody must have been listening, as the club announced just hours later that they had agreed to a 5-year contract extension with manager Julian Negrete.

Negrete will be in Omaha through at least the 2060 season and will be paid $2,510,000 annually throughout the duration of his newly signed 5 year contract. That is an 18% bump from his current salary for this season of $2,060,000.

As mentioned, this will have fans split, as many wanted James Monger to be given the opportunity to sit in the head chair. If Negrete can lead his team into the post season again this year, it would be the organization's third consecutive appearance. However, expectations seem to be much higher than just making an appearance. Last season, the team lost in the Cartwright Cup, after losing the Doubleday Series the year before. If that trend holds, it should be a Brewster appearance at the worst this year.

A Monty Brewster win would likely have fans forget about their desire for James Monger to be the man in charge.
