Omaha manager Julian Negrete is entering his 5th season as the “man in charge” of the Omaha Cyclones and despite success the past two seasons, Negrete has not found as much in the post-season.

Negrete has a 352-296 record, mostly thanks to his first two seasons, where he won 71 and 73 games with the organization. Prior to that, he was with the Chicago Black Sox from 2042 until 2047. He made the playoffs every year from 2042 until 2046, but was let go after the 2047 season, when he won 98 games but missed the post-season.

He has made the post-season 7 out of 10 times in his managerial career with a .559 winning percentage (90 wins a season on average) but there are rumblings that Negrete simply cannot win it all.

Why is this important?

Well, he is technically not in a contract after the upcoming 2055 season. The Omaha front office has been silent on an extension for him, and Negrete’s camp has mentioned even less than Omaha.

Many fans are clamoring that franchise fan favorite James Monger, who currently serves as the team's bench coach, should get a shot at the job. Monger, however, just spent his first year coaching period, during the team’s 103-59 2054 season, after he retired at the end of 2053 and quickly was given the bench coach job.

Fans should be reminded that the club had Quentin Richardson as their manager from 2034 until he was fired in 2043. He made the playoffs 5 times in 11 chances as the main man, but the club was as loyal to him as they were their players.

My gut tells me that Negrete has now been with the club long enough that a deal will get worked out and Negrete will likely continue to mentor James Monger, at which point we will see Monger eventually take the chair.

Just not next season.
