Omaha top 5 prospect off-season report(55.02)

Post by niles08 » Tue May 16, 2023 1:11 pm

1.) SP Enzo Bouton--- At age 20, Bouton ranks as the teams top prospect, and is ranked #10 overall in the BBA. He spent last year in AA where he compiled a 4.30 ERA in 25 games started. He struck out 7.6 K/9. Bouton’s top claim to fame? His paralyzing knuckleball.

ETA:2056

2.) SP Arturo Meza—Meza turned 22 last season, and was a 4th round pick in 2053. He looks every part of a BBA level starting pitcher. He spent last season between A & AA, and he should begin in AAA for the 2054 season. It is expected that he will either pitch in the pen or be an injury call up this next season.

ETA: 2055.

3.) OF Stephen Futon---Futon is a 23 year old outfielder acquired via trade last off-season. While it was thought he might crack the lineup last season, he was blocked quickly by the emergence of Du Wu. Futon spent last year in AAA batting .303/.364/.491 for a 132 OPS+ and 2.7 WAR. The club needs to find a spot for his bat.

ETA: 2055

4.) Everywhere Player Pedro Gongora---Gongora was acquired from Twin Cities for Luis Pena and despite playing everywhere spent last year in AAA other than accumulating 69 plate appearances in the BBA during September call ups. Gongora did well with a 139 OPS+ in those 69 plate appearances and looks ready to take over at second base for the departing Angel Zalapa. Gongora also can play shortstop, and all 3 outfield positions, so is a very flexible person to have on the roster.

ETA: 2055

5.) SP Fletcher Brown---Brown is a starter with excellent stuff, striking out 13.2 K/9 last year at S-A Hastings. He is a guy to watch as, despite his low movement, he might have a spot in Omaha in the future.

ETA: 2056

Other intriguing names:

OF George Mccoy---Mccoy looks ready to go with his bat after putting a 122 OPS+ on the board at AAA last year(142 against righties).

1B Balbinder Polamreddy---He doesn’t have a roster spot, but it’s not because of lack of talent. He had a 125 OPS+ last year in AA and appears ready to hit BBA pitching against both lefties and righties.

Balbinder has a legit shot at breaking my usual rules and skipping AAA.
