With everything locked, Omaha announces pitching changes. (2054.10)

Post by niles08 » Mon Apr 24, 2023 10:05 am

Omaha appears to be more than content with their 99 wins this season, as the team has announced a new-look rotation that replaces 80% of the team's typical starting pitching rotation.

Brian King, Timo Dooley, Jose Barron, & Haravira Chandar all were given notice they would be pitching out of middle relief the rest of the regular season, with “very limited” pitching opportunities in order to rest up for the post-season.

King has tossed 181 innings this year (39 with Omaha), and has a 2.50 ERA in those 39 innings. He recently signed a 3 year $27M extension, so his health moving forward is wise to pay attention to for the front office.

Chandar has tossed 170 innings this year, the most in his BBA career because of injuries. He signed a $2.7M extension last year that bought out one of his arbitration seasons.

Barron, similar to King, signed a 5-year contract worth $48,200,000. With that in mind, his health is just as important as King’s. Barron has tossed 175 innings as well this season.

Timo Dooley was also given the notice that he would be shifting to the bullpen for the last week of the season. This is another season of over 200 innings pitched for Dooley, the 11th of his career. He currently sits at 2,934 innings pitched for his career and 47.5 WAR. At age 34, Dooley has 2 years remaining after this season under contract, earning $16,000,000 each of those seasons.

Omaha’s best pitcher this season, however, Takashi Nakamura, was told he will remain in the rotation. He was however told he would have a fairly strict pitch count, with no word on exactly what that pitch count is. This despite throwing 216 innings already this season, his third time going over 214 in four seasons. He has a 3.25 ERA this season.

Joining Nakamura in the rotation is Warren Moore, who started 16 games for Omaha this year. He was rather successful in the rotation, with a 3.86 ERA in these 130 innings. Felix Camarco is also getting a crack at things in the rotation. Camaco had a 3.73 ERA in AAA this season in 15 starts and was ranked as the #90 prospect in the BBA at the start of last season.

Yun Zhang, who hasn’t pitched in the BBA since 2051, will get a start at the age of 35 after piecing together a 3.31 ERA through 29 starts at AAA Lincoln this season.

Now for the fun.

Fan favorite Leonardo Ramos, who started for Omaha 13 times in between 2043-2046, has reportedly been told to pack his things for the show. He was pitching in Single-A Mankato the past few seasons, but had a 2.09 ERA in 28 starts. Fans are not going to want to miss this start for the knuckleballer!

Glad to see king has worked out. Curious how he performs at age 42 in a few years

I’m not mad. But the way Ramos has been pitching I’m a little worried.

I actually don't mind this. 3 groundball heavy pitchers vs one of the biggest "launch angle" teams in the league. In fact, we have a very similar game plan for Nashville tomorrow.

This is why I hate playing you. Couldn't believe we swept you last time.
