With Zalapa/Gonzales out, Omaha GM turns towards his son and another top prospect.(2054.9)

With both middle infielder Angel Zalapa(1-2 weeks) and Jose Gonzalez(6-8 weeks) finding their way to the injured list this week, the Omaha front office has turned its heads towards a familiar name.

Logan Niles, who was once drafted by the team and failed to sign in the first round of the 2041 draft, and failed to sign, has been called up to the BBA team. This will be the second stint on Omaha for Niles, who has also played for Hawaii, Twin Cities, and Phoenix since debuting in 2046.

Niles was last seen stuck in rookie ball, as his Dad "taught him a lesson".

His career WAR in the BBA 1,418 at bats? -5.6.

It is likely that he will be quickly sent back down or placed on waivers as soon as Zalapa regains his health, but for the time being, it’s a fun family reunion in Omaha for Logan Niles and Omaha GM Justin Niles.

In related news, Omaha prospect Pedro Gongora who was recently acquired from Twin Cities in the deal for Luis Pena is also being called up to get his first taste of the major leagues. In AAA Lincoln this season, Gongora has a 140 OPS+ and has played 2B, SS, LF, CF, and RF. It’s expected that he will be the starting second baseman when the team takes the field tonight against Louisville at Emilio Morales field.
