Loyalty remains as Andre Ly resigns with Omaha.(2054.4)

Post by niles08 » Thu Feb 09, 2023 11:20 am

They may not win many games in Omaha, but the games they do not win on the field, they are winning in the hearts of players and fans. They have consistently had a plan with most of their long term players to make sure that if the player wanted to remain with the club, they would do everything they can to retain said player.

The plan continues.

Andre Ly, who has been with the club his entire major league career, looks like he has a chance to finish his career with the club now. That is thanks to a 4 year $40,000,000 extension that pays an even $10,000,000 each year that will begin in 2055 when Ly’s current contract expires and goes through his age 38 season. He will make $17,000,000 this season.

This new contract does have a potential player opt out for the 2058 season, but it’s interesting that Omaha, which typically gives itself a mulligan opt out, does not include anything in this contract for that to take place.

Ly has quite the trophy case. He has won 5 diamond glove awards in right field, has been a 3 time all-star, won the Brewster with the club in 2046 and went on to win the Sawyer Silk MVP award in 2047. His 131 OPS+ for his career is impressive, but so is his 153 OPS+ against right-handed pitching only. He has 60 WAR against right-handed pitchers and actually has a -3.4 WAR against lefties thanks to a 60 OPS+ against lefties.

“We’re so happy to announce this deal with Andre. He has obviously been a pivotal figure in our outfield for many years. Many don’t look back this far, but Andre and Orlando both essentially came up within 1 season of each other and have been playing next to each other in our outfield for over 14 years. Combined, they have produced over 125 WAR between them.” Said Omaha GM Justin Niles.

It’s worth noting that the aforementioned Orlando Ordonez will be entering the final year of his contract next year after signing a 6 year $1,000,000 extension that began in 2049. He is making $19,000,000 this season, so don’t be surprised to see another contract extension announced by the club in the upcoming months.

I hear that guy can play a little though - probably a better signing than James Monger.

His house has been on the market for years now. I guess I'll take down the sign.
