With acquisition of Brickell, it’s clear Cordova’s time is over in Omaha.(2054.3)

After just 119 at bats, where he accumulated 1.3 WAR, 33-year-old Alejando Cordova looks to be done in Omaha. That because of the news that fellow third baseman Rhys Brickell had been acquired from Hawaii for pitching prospect Utbah Bin Muta was, who was most recently named a top 30 prospect in the BBA.

Alejandro Cordova was acquired on 8/25/53 right near the trade deadline in a deal with the rival Yellow Springs Nine. In exchange, the team sent YS9 legend Carlos Valle for sentimental reasons along with outfield prospect Jaime Ramos. Ramos at age 23 looks like a potential lead-off hitter against right-handed pitching with his plus speed, good defense in left field, and decent bat.

Brickell has 2 years of team control remaining and at age 27 could fill the hole at third base that has been left by the Malik Bin Mazin trade a few seasons ago.

Brickell has consistently been an above average player, averaging 3.0 WAR per 162 games played. He has a very good glove at the hot corner and is a substantial upgrade from where Omaha began in 2053 at third base.

Bin Muta was acquired in 2051 for 2B Thomas Jefferson and 3B Roberto Villanueva who were shipped to Calgary. Brickell is a former top 10 prospect who was most famously included in the deal that sent Alaric Wullenweber from Hawaii to San Fernando.

Those trades Randy made in the late 40s to make failed playoff pushes still haunt San Fernando.

Hence why I am generally adverse to the idea unless I'm sure it's the key piece. Which I rarely am. It's also why deals like this one are my stock in trade, where I am not wondering later if I made a horrendous mistake.

Cordova, BTW, was streaky as hell for me. Glad he worked out for Omaha.

First off, at some point you have to stop bitching about moves I made. It is older than the pope at this point (plus I ended up flipping wullenweber anyway).

Secondly, Brickell was a secondary player in that deal (arenas was easily the headliner), who bumped massively after that. I figured he would be a solid bat but not THIS good. Plus he was blocked by Rivera who did pretty well for you (but of course you won't mention that).

I’m just calling it as I see it. You think you left me a better situation than I think I inherited, so naturally we’re going to draw some differing conclusions from that. I don’t think you get to ignore San Fernando now having the longest playoff drought in the BBA because you took over a different team that was in better shape. This is a message board where we discuss the league and I’m not saying anything personal about you.

The return from Sacramento for Wullenweber isn’t exactly a quiver in your cap. Most of the players ended up going bust. Wasim Ala had one really good year before I showed up. The net between the two trades is massive loss of WAR.

Rivera had two years of control and you could argue I should have traded him as soon as I took over, I guess. His career year came in his contract season.

Oh, and Randy: I’d welcome some constructive criticism. You haven’t engaged much with my posts about the Bears and maybe that’s just you trying to give me space, but I reached out when I took over because I need the feedback so I can improve. I’d love to get your perspective on your old squad.

The team I inherited had just gone 65-97, we had the 23rd highest budget (payroll was maxed out), 29th ranked farm system, and you hadn’t written a single TN the year before. I did inherit a *ton* of PPT. I didn’t have much prior experience with online leagues.

Here’s some of the confusion—you thought you left me a middle of the road pitching staff:

This is by far the most bizarre off season I have ever seen.
Why is that? I’m worried I missed a good opportunity to turn my franchise around because I’m stuck in financial hell.
Maybe I'm being a bit self serving here, but you are far from financial hell (or at least you were when I left). Sure you aren't sitting on a goldmine of money or prospects, but you have no truly awful contracts moving forward (vargas isn't great but he isn't awful compared to some around the league), and you are basically middle of the pack organization wise in every aspect but minors (which I admit are bad).

You want financial hell, look at Atlantic city in 2055 and 2056, or go back a few years and look at what twin cities were like.

End rant
