Omaha enters an off-season of potential change. Is a front office change imminent? (2053.2)

Raise your hands if you have heard this one before, but Omaha sat below expectations last season.

For the first time ever in the Niles regime, Omaha finished the trifecta, 3 seasons in a row under .500 and 4 seasons in a row missing the playoffs (missed in 2049 with 82 wins). Prior to that, Omaha had never missed the post-season more than 3 years in a row (other than the first 3 seasons that Niles took over and the team was in a quick rebuild).

That begs the question, what is going on in Omaha?

Was it the 10-17 start in April or the 8-19 record in May? It’s worth mentioning that after May, the team sat right around .500 every month but the damage had already been done.

Now entering the off-season, Omaha has said goodbye to 3.4 WAR, while acquiring exactly 0 early on. Parker Davenport played well behind the plate, but the team reportedly had no interest in resigning him. Stan Cyr accumulated 2.0 WAR in the rotation, but the team apparently thinks there are better options out there.

Just when you assume the team is holding back money to sign James Monger, it appears they actually are not, as they let him walk and haven’t had any discussions with him, according to reports.

The team currently has around $20,000,000 in cap space they can spend, with budget not being an issue, with much of the same budget available for next season.

It’s December 16th and Omaha fans are begging the team to go ahead and spend the money. When Omaha has had money in the past, they have spent is quickly. Is the fact they are currently at 0 acquisitions a sign that they have no plans to spend it, or are they letting the big fish go and then fishing for smaller fish whey they clearly need to be searching for large fish?

From an outsider, it looks like maybe the front office just isn’t very good at this, and it’s time to move on.

Can’t figure out why your teams sucks so bad. On paper I feel like they’re a wildcard team easily.

This had something to do with it.

That’ll do it. It’s been the past few seasons though.
