Omaha spends $6,200,000 on three minor league players.(51.07)

With the UMEBA collapsing upon itself, this off-season has been quite a bit larger and more fluid than other years, and the Omaha front office, despite being late to the party, have quietly offered some signing bonuses to guys to head to the minors, develop their game further, and have a chance at the big leagues.

Just this week, the club announced the following signings:

3B Roberto Villanueva---Villanueva was given a $4,400,000 signing bonus as a 23-year-old to head to the minor leagues and continue to develop his playing ability. He could likely start at third base this year if the team was in a pickle, as his bat would hold up for a bit and his third base defense is above average. For now, though, Villanueva has been told to report to AAA Lincoln.

P Jorge Santos—Santos signed on the dotted line with a $1,800,000 signing bonus. He is a 24-year-old pitcher who could start now if the team was in a pinch. There is some potential for Santos to fill a middle rotation spot if he develops a bit further.

P Jesus Garcia---Garcia is another 24-year-old who signed for just $100,000. Garcia is likely a AAAA starter, but one that should be a contributor in AAA for sure. Omaha has had a history of not employing enough pitchers on its minor league rosters, and Garcia should provide some help with this if nothing else.

One thing worth pointing out is that all 3 players report to the minor leagues having used 0 days of major league service time, and with 3 option years left. These players are not the team's 40-man roster as of yet.
