Morales to the bench for a breather.(48.6)

With Emilio Morales having inked his name atop the record books for career home runs, the team coincidently announced that Malik Bin Mazin would be getting more looks at third base moving forward, while Morales would be coming off the bench.

“This isn’t a shot at Emilio as much as it is about getting Malik some game action. We’ve known for a long time how special Malik was going to be, and he’s been making his way through our system for the past 6 years. He is ready to go, and we want to get him consistent at bats.” Said Omaha manager William Cole. “We aren’t expecting Malik to finish his career with 723 home runs, however we expect great things out of him. I know it’s not going to be an easy challenge to essentially replace a legend for this city.”

Malik Bin Mazin, who is the clubs #1 overall prospect and the #5 prospect in the entire Brewster, made his long-awaited debut in May and has accumulated 169 at bats since that time by filling in at 1st base while Wilson Estrada recovered from injury.
Since being called up, he is batting just .249/.299/.396, which is a steep drop from his AAA batting line of .321/.365/.481 before his call-up. Mazin got off to a slow start, and has watched his triple slash climb with every at bat. In July, he hit .274/.328/.403. The team is obviously hoping that climb continues as they look prepared to move forward with Mazin at 3rd base.

“Emilio is going to still be a large part of who we are and what we do. He will be the first guy off the bench in pinch hitting roles, and we will also use his versatility to not only come in and play third base, but to give James a breather at 2nd and potentially fill in at first as well on occasion.” Said Cole.
