Omaha calls up #6 prospect Malik Bin Mazin.(48.3)

Post by niles08 » Fri Sep 17, 2021 9:38 am

The wait is over as Omaha has officially filed paperwork notifying the league that top prospect Malik Bin Mazin will make his Brewster debut this coming week.

Mazin has slowly crept his way up through the Cyclones farm system since signing with the team back in 2043 as the “heir apparent” to Emilio Morales. Mazin currently ranks as the #7 prospect in the entire BBA.

He spent both the 2046 and 2047 seasons in AA where he was an above average hitter, however has spent the start of this season in AAA and has done very well against AAA pitchers. His current line of .321/.365/.481 accounts for a 142 OPS+ and a 1.3 WAR.

With Emilio Morales signed with Omaha through next season already, it’s not known where Mazin will play on a routine basis, however with the current injury to 1B Wilson Estrada, it’s possible Omaha may try to get cute and shift Morales to 1B or even 2B and move Monger to 1B.

Jimmy Starks has struggled in May with full time starts at 1B, batting just .196/.222/.392, so it’s likely that even with Estrada out just for 2 more weeks that Omaha may be looking for a small upgrade for those 2 weeks. It’s possible that Mazin may just get a small preview for these two weeks, and might be sent right back down when Estrada returns. It’s also possible that Mazin plays to well to be sent down, but it’s worth pointing out that Mazin recently was playing left field in AAA, so they may look to shift him into the outfield to get additional at bats.

Morales for what it’s worth, hasn’t kept his momentum for his hot start, and is currently only batting .229/.270/.350 with 4 home runs on the year, which makes a 67 OPS+. Morales needs another 6 home runs to tie Bopper Kengos for the BBA career record for dingers. His current pace would put him with another 11 on the season, but is It possible that he begins to lose at bats? Morales is in the final year of his 6 year, $70,780,000 contract but is signed for next season at $1,900,000.
